Todays show is our Friday show and we will take a couple of days off to recharge and get ready to get going again starting on Sunday. we wanted to get one of our messages across this show Because mental health isn’t only about what’s happening inside someone’s head, It is also about the world they’re living in. Poverty! War! Violence! Inequality! Isolation! Loss! The constant stream of terrible news. Feeling powerless. Compassion fatigue. Growing up and discovering that the world isn’t necessarily the safe, simple place you thought it was. Artists like Matchbox Twenty do this so well with their song “Unwell” because it is particularly good because the song deals with social anxiety, isolation and feeling like you don’t fit in, rather than simply saying “I’m depressed.” Rob Thomas has spoken about his own anxiety and panic attacks in connection with the song. And a song like Tears For Fears “Mad World”, Roland Orzabal has recently discussed how the song was rooted in depression and a troubled childhood, while its upbeat/synth-driven presentation disguised how dark the subject actually was. We try not to be a cookie cutter example of mental wellbeing, we strive to see as much of the whole complex meaning of mental health. Starts with our love for music and the stories that it tell from one artists to another.
