Started todays show with one of my favorites from Led Zeppelin, the song Ten Years Gone the lyrics blends regret with wistfulness, focusing on how a person evolves while still holding a place in their heart for a past connection. Plant reflects on memories of the past with lines like “Did you ever really need somebody, and really need ’em bad? / Did you ever really find somebody, the best time you ever had?” Robert Plant explained the story of the song in a 1975 Rolling Stone interview. Before joining Led Zeppelin, he was working tirelessly in the music scene. A woman he deeply loved gave him a choice, stay with her or pursue his music. Always follow your heart, it is usually right. “Telephone Line” is a 1976 hit ballad by the rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), written by frontman Jeff Lynne. Influenced by the melancholy, soulful ballad style of Roy Orbison, the song explores the helpless, desperate feelings of being isolated on the lonely end of a breakup. Be careful once you make a decision based on not giving it a full look through or you will be spending many years wondering if you made the right choice or not. Trooper Two For The Show is a classic song the lyrics follow a nervous lead singer putting on stage makeup, realizing he barely remembers the words to his own songs. He grapples with the superficiality of the industry and wonders if there’s a more meaningful path to take. The catchy chorus is a play on the classic 19th-century children’s counting rhyme (and famous Blue Suede Shoes lyric), mocking the robotic, commercialized nature of getting a hit song.
